The City of Bischwiller is devoting its next temporary exhibition to a very current subject: caricature.
A form of graphic art complementary to discourse in the media, today it embodies the republican tradition and freedom of opinion and expression, protected in France by the laws on freedom of expression of 1789 and freedom of expression. press of 1881.
Existing since Antiquity, it has evolved over time, with an ever-increasing diffusion due to its biting language, the variety of its expressions and its anchoring in the short time of current events.
The exhibition Caricature in all its states looks back at the origins and definition of caricature and satirical drawing in Europe and traces the main lines of the development of modern caricature. In this year of European elections, it gives pride of place to Franco-German relations, from the signing of the Élysée Treaty in 1963 to the present day, supplemented by works by the Alsatian artist Tomi Ungerer and drawings by press of the designer Plantu.
