On March 15 and 16, 2025, the city of Haguenau will commemorate the 80th anniversary of its final liberation during a weekend rich in historical and festive events. After an initial liberation on December 11, 1944, followed by a German reconquest, Haguenau was finally liberated on March 16, 1945. To honor this significant date, the municipality has planned a series of immersive activities intended for all audiences.
Historical reconstruction and exhibitions
Throughout the weekend, the forecourt of the Hops Market will host a reconstruction of a American camp, offering visitors a authentic immersion in the atmosphere of the time. At the same time, the Customs room will present a exhibition of vintage postcards, retracing life in Haguenau between 1935 and 1945 the history buffs will also be able to meet Christophe Viller, author of the book "To each his own war", who will be present for autograph sessions.
Guided tours and official commemorations
On Saturday, the Haguenau History and Archeology Society will offer guided tours entitled "In the footsteps of the 1st Liberation of Haguenau", with departures at 13h30 et 15h30 from the care center parking lot, 1 rue du Château Walk. These routes will allow you to relive the events of December 1944 through emblematic places of the city. On Sunday, the official commemorations will start at 11h on the forecourt of the Media Library, with a taking up arms, a Mayor's speech and military parade in the presence of 2nd Hussar Regiment, 28th Geographic Group and 54th Transmission Regiment.
Festive and cultural events
The revelry will also include friendly moments, such as Grand Liberation Ball Saturday night at the Hops Market. Of the 18h30, a Charleston initiation will be proposed by theHopla Swing association, followed by a Glenn's Swing Orchestra concert à 20h, inviting participants to wear period costumes to dive together into the Haguenau 1945 !
