One hundred and forty years of an exceptional human adventure exhibited at the Sonnenhof museum, or of the “Protestant asylum for idiots” at the “Cour du soleil”.
"The Protestant asylum for idiots", created in Oberhoffen sur Moder in 1876 under the impetus of pastors, has become the Protestant Sonnenhof Foundation which welcomes in Bischwiller a thousand people, mentally retarded, autistic, polyhandicapped, elderly ...
The museum is the work of Gerdy DREYER, a passionate retired educator. The idea of showing the tremendous work accomplished daily by the Foundation came to him during the fortuitous discovery in old trunks suitable for throwing away documents of inestimable historical value, including a founding act in German Gothic writing. He patiently collected period equipment, various tools, clothing, wheelchairs, old photographs.
Everything is organized both in chronological order and by center of interest: school, work, holidays, war, choir… A film completes the visit to a museum unlike any other which highlights highlights human values and reminds us that "every life is a light".
