The action traces the arrival of the "Easy Company" in Alsace, in Haguenau.
There she received the order to send a patrol towards the other bank of La Moder to bring back prisoners. The mission succeeds, but a soldier is killed, prompting Major Winters to knowingly ignore the order given to him to repeat the mission the following night.

The real "Easy Company" was the 2nd Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the US 101st Airborne Division during World War II.

To create the sets for episode 8, the team of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks came to Haguenau to scout. The sets were then recreated on a former military base in Hatfield, near London, Great Britain.

In reality, the town of Haguenau was liberated on December 11, 1944, only to be abandoned again to the occupiers on January 1945. It was on March 16, 1945 that the American army definitively liberated Haguenau.
