The Route Starting from Haguenau, City of Barberousse, you will escape to the vast forest that adjoins the city. Between stands of pines and oaks, the forest has been labeled "Forêt d'Exception®" since 2020 and constitutes the green lung of the capital of Northern Alsace. Then, you will arrive at Walbourg, home to the Romanesque abbey church of St-Walburge and the Memorial Museum presenting the history of the territory between 1870 and 1945. You will then continue your excursion along the northern edge of the Haguenau forest to Betschdorf, a town of potters who perpetuate ancestral traditions. Don't hesitate to step through the doors of the many workshops. Visits to the Maginot Line structures of Hatten and Leutenheim will allow you to understand the defensive system deployed in wartime by the French army. You will then reach the Rhineland located on the banks of the Rhine by taking the EuroVelo15 Rhine Cycle Route to Drusenheim with its Paso Museum and its Altwasser gardens. Along the way, take a break in Sessenheim where Goethe lived an idyll. You will then pass through Soufflenheim, the second renowned pottery center on the route. You will once again return to the peaceful and exceptional forest of Haguenau and pass by the unmissable site of Gros Chêne before returning to the starting point of the circuit.
