Mommenheim is a pretty village located in the Bas-Rhin, in Alsace. It appears in the middle of the 10th century, under the name of Mumlen. Composed at the time of only a hundred inhabitants, Mommenheim continues to grow over the years despite the many historical events that have marked its course.
Nestled in the meanders of the Zorn, at the gates of Kochersberg and the country of Hanau, the municipality of Mommenheim is also located at the crossroads of several important axes. It is located in the center of a road junction and serves an agricultural hinterland, rich in services and shops. The village is developing thanks to many projects. It is intended to be urban in the north with the activity platforms and rural in the south with its restful and green nature.
The center of the town has several notable buildings, such as the Saint Maurice church located in the center of the village, the synagogue, the tithe barn as well as the half-timbered houses which tell the story of the town.
A village marked by ancient history. Mommenheim was hard hit by the Second World War but thanks to its capacity for resilience, at the end of the conflict, Franco-German ties were renewed through its twinning with the German village of Vimbuch. The friendship between the two municipalities continues to strengthen to anchor itself in the new History.
Mommenheim derives its dynamism from a rapidly expanding population and the many events and activities taking place throughout the year. From the local market taking place every week, to one-off events such as the Christmas trail or the flea market, the great vitality of Mommenheim never wanes.
The village and its inhabitants have a pronounced taste for flowers. Each year, the flowering of the town is a particularly important moment which marks the arrival of spring, where everyone marvels at all these colors.
For a shady walk along the Zorn, a bike ride between fields and forest, reading a good novel with a view of the valley, or even a picnic with family or friends, the village and its surroundings offer a perfect setting for all types of activities.
Mommenheim, a welcoming and dynamic village, both authentic and resolutely turned towards the future.
