BR48 From the banks of the Rhine to the Marne-Rhine canal
Strasbourg
The Route Starting from Strasbourg, the route runs along EuroVelo 15 - Rhine Cycle Route - and makes a foray into the Robertsau/Wantzenau Rhine Forest, a national nature reserve. The splendid Pourtalès Park and its castle, located nearby, are worth a break. The circuit continues along the high-water dike built parallel to the Rhine. From La Wantzenau, a succession of villages facing the Rhine are offered to the cyclist: Gambsheim, its locks and fish pass, Offendorf, its listed Rhine Forest and its boating heritage, Drusenheim, its Altwasser gardens and its Rhine ferry. The route then follows the Moder Valley Cycle Route to Haguenau, the city of Barbarossa, a dynamic and pleasant gateway to Northern Alsace, rich in its exceptional forest. A quiet road leads to Brumath, a former regional capital in Roman times. Its leisure center spread around its lake is a great place to refresh yourself. Finally, the return to Strasbourg is via the EuroVelo5 - Via Romea along the Marne-Rhine Canal cycle route and its towpath.
