Above the windows of the ground floor of the grimacing masks, These would be the 10 city councilors opposed to the construction project of the courthouse in this place.
The building on the left, across the Rue des Chevaliers is the Grand Manège Covered. It was built in 1847 to allow the officers of the garrison to work their horses in bad weather.
Finally, to the left of the merry-go-round, at the corner of rue des Chevaliers and rue des Roses, is an 18th century house. It is the Kreutter House, the central window on the ground floor towards the rue des Chevaliers bears a cartridge with weapons which are undoubtedly those of Kreutter. Three other lintels are decorated with a woman's head in high relief. It served as the residence of Tsar Alexander I during the Haguenau Conferences of June 1.
