The place called "Gros-Chêne", in the heart of the forest, is a place very popular with visitors: children's play area, picnic areas, inn to enjoy a tarte flambée on the terrace ... All the ingredients are gathered to have a good moment of relaxation with family or friends.
Also discover the monument of the oak by Gloria Friedmann, in honor of this tree which was felled by fire and lightning at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the Saint-Arbogast chapel, a hermit who would have lived here before becoming bishop of Strasbourg in the 6th century.
Le Gros Chêne is also the starting point for many marked hiking trails, cycle tours, fitness trails and a trail for people with reduced mobility (also ideal for strollers).
Walkers who will go beyond Gros-Chêne will discover many other treasures, between remarkable trees, ponds, tumuli or other vestiges of history elsewhere in the forest…
On foot, by bike, or on horseback, a rich forest to discover all year round, through the seasons, and where the landscape is punctuated by colors and smells.
Enjoy the Haguenau Forest of Exception® hidden treasures program throughout the year, which offers walks, outings and excursions in the forest.
The map of walks in the Haguenau forest is available at the Haguenau Tourist Office.
12 hiking files, including a bike ride, are now available at the Tourist Office (in hard copy or download). These sheets have been designed to accompany your journey with detailed information, anecdotes and suggested stages, allowing you to discover certain peculiarities of the forest. Each hike revolves around a main theme: remarkable trees, natural and cultural heritage, forest management ...
