In the 1862th century, Victor Guerber, parish priest of Saint-Georges, created a legend around Saint Arbogast and the Big Oak in the forest of Haguenau. A monument was erected in 1955 to celebrate Arbogast, attracting pilgrims. Although the historical accuracy is disputed, the tradition persists, and an annual mass has been celebrated in July since XNUMX, near the remains of the Big Oak.
Near the Gros Chêne site, you will find a picnic area, a playground and an inn. The site is also the starting point for many marked trails for walking, cycling and mountain biking circuits, fitness trails, as well as a trail accessible to people with reduced mobility and pushchairs.
