Built between 1900 and 1905 in a Neo-Renaissance style, the museum houses collections that bear witness to the history of the city and its surrounding region from prehistory to modern times. A rich archaeological collection from the Bronze and Iron Ages reveals a culture that flourished in the Haguenau forest. This is complemented by the Gallo-Roman period, with exceptional objects such as a Roman legionary helmet. Several rooms are dedicated to the history of the city since its founding in the 12th century.
The museum also has a fine collection of Hannong earthenware, art nouveau and art deco glasses.
