The vaulted cellars of the former Hanau-Lichtenberg castle, built in 1717 and transformed into a church in 1804, serve as the setting for a very interesting museum dedicated to the Gallo-Roman past of Brocomagus-Brumath, then the civil capital of Alsace. After a quick introduction to ancient periods (prehistory and protohistory), we discover the brilliant Gallo-Roman past of the city: monumental remains, beautiful carved stelae, votive dedications. Several display cases are devoted to crafts, bronze and iron metallurgy, bone work, potters' workshops ... The necropolises are evoked by reconstructions of burials and by rich funerary furniture while statuettes in bronze and sculpted stelae bear witness to an intense religious life.
