By the 1950s, Herrmann and Karcher had established themselves on the art scene, exhibiting in renowned galleries in Strasbourg and Paris. Their work reflects a constant quest for artistic truth and innovation. Herrmann, a master of chiaroscuro and intense colors, excelled in still life and the male nude. He also experimented with lacquer painting, a demanding technique that gave his works a unique depth. Karcher, meanwhile, favored a quick and refined brushstroke, developing a poetic and spontaneous style.
Based in Bischwiller, they are constantly evolving through their encounters and creativity. The exhibition traces this artistic adventure, highlighting their influences, their varied techniques, and their evolution toward abstraction. "The Colors of a Life" thus offers an immersion into the vibrant and unique world of two painters who have left their mark on Alsatian and contemporary art.
