Dauendorf is a town of about 1500 inhabitants located at the top of a hill reaching just over 200 meters above sea level. It is to religious tradition that we owe several old chapels in the village which are surrounded by legend. In the past, agricultural activity was present throughout the territory, but the town has expanded through the extension of residential districts. The associative network is extensive in artistic, folk or sports fields. The village has a "Concordia" communal hall, a music hall, sports grounds, and a primary school. It is in Dauendorf that we find one of the most important retirement homes in the territory. Dauendorf includes an annex village, Neubourg, located in the Moder valley. It is at the edge of this river that a Cistercian abbey was erected in the Middle Ages. The activity of the Cistercian monks lasted until the period of the Revolution. Part of the site has been preserved and restored by the current owners. The small town is surrounded by the forest of Haguenau, the paths of which amaze walkers and are used every winter for a sports running competition.
