Schirrhein is a charming little village in the North of Alsace, it is located about 10 minutes from Haguenau and 30 minutes from Strasbourg. The proximity of the forest gives it a special aspect. Indeed, the village stretches along a main artery for nearly two kilometers and once had the appearance of a village street. This type of village is common on the edge of the forest.

What characterizes Schirrhein is its eccentricity in relation to its finage. While most Alsatian villages are located roughly in the center of their ban, Schirrhein is located at the extreme western edge of its territory. It is “sandwiched” between the Haguenau forest and the Fallgraben wetland.

Formerly the houses were all built on one side of the main artery, the other being occupied by the forest, hence the saying in Alsatian that in Schirrhein "were d'Eierküeche numme off einere Sitt gebacke" ( Pancakes are only cooked on one side). Today this old saying is no longer true, because since the Second World War many new houses have been built on the other side of Principale Street.

With its schools and reception facilities for the youngest, the municipality is present alongside families and thus meets their needs. The presence of numerous associative, sporting and cultural structures, which animate the streets of the village with various events and festivals, shows all the dynamism of the town.
