The town is an old imperial village of the great bailiwick of Haguenau First mention in 1187; former imperial then royal village belonging to the seigniory of Choiseul Stainville at the end of the old regime and is located on a site called "the hills of Brumath". The name can be broken down into two German terms: "der Winter", namely "winter" and "das Haus", namely "house, house." Spelled "Wintershouse" or "Wintershausen", the name of the village can be translated as "winter houses". A charming village of 907 inhabitants, the “Winter House” is nothing short of icy! At Wintershouse we meet, we dance, we move, we sing, we play. There are plenty of opportunities to meet and share good times. The "crows" (The inhabitants of Wintershouse are decked out with the nickname "crows" ("Rame" in Germanic) flourish in the commune of "herring" (This refers to the company Est-Friture, located in Wintershouse since 1979), which had the honor of very recently welcoming “three dragonflies!” In fact, the commune of Wintershouse was awarded, in November 2016, the “Commune nature” label adorned with 3 dragonflies.
